Brisbane City Council EBA Bulletin No. 24 – A Road Re-Travelled

Brisbane City Council EBA Bulletin No. 24 – A Road Re-Travelled

The Services Union recommenced discussions with Brisbane City Council yesterday after a few weeks off and the ill-fated discussion in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) last week. As the scope applications filed by several Unions will not be heard until some time in July, our Union chose to discuss matters which were of importance for all Single Bargaining Unit (SBU) Unions.

First up for discussion was the requirement that employees have the nature of their illness or injury recorded on a medical certificate. This is well-travelled ground but we travelled over it again and Council intends to think about what was said and work on a document to put back to the SBU.

We travelled over the flexible rostering issue yet again. There is much for members to be concerned about in the proposal. Council is of the view that the concerns or some of them might be because their proposal has not been fully understood. Along these lines, Council intends to prepare a flow chart to highlight how their proposal is intended to work. We await this chart with bated breath.

Domestic and Family Violence leave was touched on again.  Council refused again to move on their position that the provision only be outlined in the Agreement with the main operative parts set out in policy. The unanimous position of The Services Union and the SBU is that the whole clause should be in the Agreement to ensure enforceability.

ACTION ITEM: WHAT YOU CAN DO

Now is the time to go online (www.theservicesunion.com.au) or call Services Connect on 38445300 to update your personal/non-work e-mail and phone number and your workplace location details. Over the next few weeks The Services Union will be asking members to authorise certain types of industrial action to help move the bargaining process along at Council. Only members can help us and you have been telling us loudly and clearly that the time to help is now.

If you work with anyone who is not yet able to assist, point them to your local delegate or www.theservicesunion.com.au/join/join-now.
