Marriage Equality Campaign

Spread the Word

The Services Union is proud to support marriage equality.

This is an issue of equality before the law and all union members ought to fight for the right of fellow members and their family members being treated with the same level of dignity and respect everyone else enjoys – the right to state sanctioned marriage.

Please sign our pledge and tell us your story and together we can change the world – starting with the Marriage Act.

Take our pledge:

I will vote ‘yes’ to marriage equality because:
• In Australia, fairness and equality are central to who we are and what we stand for;
• Every loving and committed couple should be treated the same in Australian law, including be able to legally marry;
• Everyone in my community should have the same opportunities for dignity, respect and happiness.

Giving us your phone number means we’ll be able to update you when the ballots for the postal plebiscite get sent out. All information will be kept in
accordance with the Privacy Act. In particular, your phone number will not be sold, passed on or otherwise used for any other purpose.

Our members tell us that this should be sorted out by a vote in the Parliament and there are other more important things that $120 million can be spent on, like tackling youth unemployment or funding vital community services. Our Union is also concerned about the negative impact the NO vote campaign will have on young LGBTIQ+ members, their families and the broader community. Marriage equality should be a moment of unity, not division. That’s why many of our members have taken action to show that they’re committed to turn out a strong YES vote! Because it’s the right thing to do!

Our Union is concerned about the impact a NO vote campaign will have on vulnerable members of the LGBTIQ+ community. If you or someone you know might be struggling at the moment then we encourage you to get in touch with one of the following services or utilise the attached resources.
