Become A Workplace Delegate.
You can make a contribution to Real Change by making our Union visible in your workplace. You can do this as a Workplace Delegate.
What is a Workplace Delegate?
A Workplace Delegate is a member who has put their hand up to become more active in our Union because they are passionate about creating a better workplace for everyone at work. They are supported by their fellow members to represent and organise their workplace. Workplace Delegates are essential because the work that they do keeps our Union strong and united.
About being a Workplace Delegate
Workplace Delegates are the key to the strength of The Services Union. There are few more important roles in our Union than that of the Workplace Delegate. They are the vital support link between members in different work sites and different areas. To achieve effective collective campaigns, we need the support and commitment of our Workplace Delegates.
What are the roles and responsibilities of a Workplace Delegate?
Workplace Delegates are the link between The Services Union members, their union and the union’s staff. They are the face of our Union providing information to their workmates. A big part of their role is to ensure that everyone on their worksite is kept up-to-date, by helping to distribute union information to their workmates.
Workplace Delegates perform other important roles. They also:
- Sign up new members;
- Represent our union at employee inductions, making new employees aware of our union and the benefits of them being union;
- Talk regularly with our Union’s Organisers about campaigns and issues occurring within the workplace;
- Develop other activists;
- Represent and support members to management about individual and collective workplace issues; and
- Let’s our Union office know of changes to members’ information.
Ultimately, the Workplace Delegate role is pivotal in building The Services Union in the workplace through campaigning and recruiting.
It is a role that you take at your pace as you build confidence and experience. You are always supported in the role by our unions staff be it directly in the workplace; online or via the phone.
