Union members win in Government-Owned Corporations!

In a historic victory for members of The Services Union, the Miles Labor Government has expanded its nation-leading reproductive health leave entitlements to include all Government-Owned Corporations. This groundbreaking reform ensures that workers will receive 10 days of leave for reproductive health needs, and superannuation contributions during paid and unpaid parental leave.

Key Benefits:
  • 10 Days of Reproductive Health Leave: Effective from 30 September 2024, this leave covers treatments like IVF, hysterectomy, vasectomy, and conditions such as endometriosis and severe menopause.
  • Superannuation Contributions on Parental Leave: From 1 July 2024, super contributions will be made for the entire 52-week parental leave period, regardless of pay status.
Premier Steven Miles stated: "By September 30, government-owned corporations will have access to dedicated leave for reproductive health care. This initiative underscores our commitment to the health and equity of Queensland workers. We aim to set a precedent for other organizations to follow."

This milestone reflects the power of The Services Union’s collective voice. Our Union has been advocating for the introduction of reproductive leave and paid superannuation on parental leave for many years.  We led the charge and successfully secured these benefits in Energy Queensland, CS Energy and Stanwell Corporation and we can now proudly demonstrate that together, we've achieved a significant advancement in workers' rights and support across all Government-Owned Corporations. Let's continue to build on this momentum and ensure every worker receives the respect and benefits they deserve.
