Industry Division Committees
Industry Division Committee representatives are elected by the membership of The Services Union every four years. Industry Division Committees of our Union link Branch Council priorities to industry priorities for implementation.
The role of the Industry Division Committees
The members of The Services Union come from a variety of industries. These members have many common interests and gain a lot from being part of a large union with the resources that come with it.
However, there are a number of issues that arise within industries that affect only members from those industries. In order to ensure that our union can benefit from the combined strength of all of our members whilst still allowing for industry issues to be addressed in-depth we have adopted a divisional structure based on industry lines. The role of the Branch Industry Division Committees is to advise the union on policy, strategies and priorities with regard to the industrial issues within that industry.
Industry Division Committee representatives are seen as “member experts” on the current situation within their industry. The priorities that are then set at each Industry Division Committee are fed through to the Branch Executive Committee of the union.
What do Industry Division Committee (IDC) Representatives do?
IDC representatives, ensure that views of the members in their industry are represented in the union’s priorities. IDC Committee members ensure that:
• Members are made aware of what is happening to union members generally and in their particular industry;
• Members are educated of major changes and initiatives occurring within their particular industry and how these changes may impact on workers within that industry;
• Members are engaged with the industrial issues occurring in their industry and what the priorities for union action might be;
• Members are aware of initiatives being run by The Services Union; and
• The voice of union members’ are heard at to IDC meetings.
