BOM DEFUSED.

Important update for our Queensland Rail (QR)  members, consultation on the Stations Business Operating Model (BOM) has been temporary defused. This is largely thanks to the hard work and feedback of our members and delegates.

Tuesday morning, 2 July 2024, your Senior industrial officer Ben Ellis and Stations Delegate Andrew Somerville met with Head of SEQ Neil Backer, General Managers and other stakeholders. We were advised that the SEQ Station Customer Service Business Operating Model has been placed on hold due to the introduction of the 50-cent fare trial starting in August 2024!

Your representatives have been meeting with Senior Management, QRs Executive Leaders and other Stakeholders seeking access to the data QR is relying upon in their review of the Stations BOM. QR to date has not shared this data which is problematic as we are unable to understand the full impacts any review on station opening hours and operations, jobs and take home pay, could have!

We also informed QR of members concerns that any data prior to the introductions of the 50c fare trail starting in August would be obsolete. Our Unions position is that any data utilised to review the BOM must accurately reflect the traveling habits of customers. Only then can we ensure that our Station’s opening hours and staffing levels are sufficient to meet QRs connecting communities commitment. QRs pausing of the BOM is a clear indication our voices have been heard.

We are pleased that QR has finally taken the sensible and intelligent approach to postpone and reassess their position around the BOM. However we take seriously, members concerns that BOM redesign may occur in other forms eg closing stations. This is why we are requesting members inform us if QR management are closing stations and impacting the local communities that we connect.

If you are aware of any altered opening hours of your station please let us now by emailing the details and your concern to [email protected]
