Skilled Respected Equal
1 in 3 frontline workers in social and community services rely on financial support from family and friends due to underpayment. Half of our workforce is paid below their qualifications, skills, and experience.
This is not right.
Every day, ASU members like you make an incredible impact, supporting our communities and providing essential services. Yet, despite your skill and dedication, workers in the sector are overworked, undervalued, and underpaid.
We need fair pay and recognition, now.
We’ve heard you. Our recent research with the University of New South Wales was based on the testimonies of over 3000 ASU members. It confirms the systematic underpayment and undervaluation of social and community workers in Australia.
What are we going to do about it?
In 2012, we won a historic equal pay claim with pay rises of 23-45% through collective action. We know that when we join together, we can win and make incredible change. It’s time to do that again.
Last week over 60 ASU delegates from across the country joined together to kick off our campaign for fair pay at our national member summit in Sydney. We need a classification structure that ensures fair pay and reflects your skills, experience and qualifications.
A big thank you to our exclusive summit partner HESTA for supporting ASU members across two big days of action!
Will you commit to a future that’s skilled, respected, and equal for social and community workers?
Let’s make sure that community and disability workers are valued and respected, with fair pay and secure careers—because you deserve better!
