Our sector is constantly evolving, but the SCHADS Award classifications have not changed in 30 years.

Community and disability workers deserve your skills to be respected, your work and experience to be properly valued, and for equal pay to be protected.

This campaign will not be won in a courtroom alone – we need to all come together to campaign for this in our workplaces and community.

Here are two things you can do to help us get started with that work.

  1. Register for a workplace union meeting so we can update all of your colleagues about the case and campaign
  2. Sign the petition calling on Governments to support our case

Why do we need to fix the Award classification system?

Over the last year we have held hundreds of union meetings across NSW and the ACT to develop a plan to improve the pay and conditions of all workers in our sector. The overwhelming response from members has been that we need to start by updating our Award and its classification system so that your work is better recognised and valued.

Today we are putting that into action and have lodged our case with the Fair Work Commission, pushing for fair wages and proper recognition of your skills, experience and qualifications, and to entrench equal pay permanently into your wages.

It was from taking action, growing our union and building support across our sector and community that we won Equal Pay, paid family and domestic violence leave and portable long service leave.

We will be providing many more updates over the coming months about how you can get involved in the campaign.

For now – register for a workplace meeting , sign the petition and share the news with your colleagues.

Our work matters. It's time our Award was updated to reflect that.
